We Had a Beary Good Week!

Wow.....week 2 flew by!  We have been very busy this week practicing our routines and procedures for our Guided Reading rotations.  Most of our day is spent in rotations, so it is very important that the students learn how and what to do in them.  We have 4 reading rotations that the students will move through each day during our Guided Reading time.  The rotations are Partner Read, Read to Self, Word Work, and Listening.  This week, we focused on Partner Reading.  We practiced the correct way to partner read and the wrong way to partner read.   We learned that we must always sit  EEKK, or elbow to elbow, knee to knee.  The kiddos did a great job partner reading our weekly story, What Is A  Pal?  This week we will learn how to pick out Right Fit Books for our book boxes and practice Read to Self.   Here are some of the kiddos partner reading EEKK style!

The students also presented their All About Me scrapbook pages.  I loved learning a little bit more about them as well as about their family.  The kiddos were so proud to stand up and present their pages to the class.

Friday was Teddy Bear Day! We started our day by reading a few books about bears.  Then we got our wiggles out with a fun Brian Break to "I am a Gummy Bear!" We had so much fun doing this, we actually danced to it twice!  During Math, we used gummy bears to create a bar graph.  Students practiced sorting, counting, and comparing with the gummy bears.  In Reading, we practiced our Partner Reading with our bears.  The kiddos read their weekly story, What is a Pal? to their bears.  We ended our fun day by laying on the floor with our bears and watching Paddington.

Our Awesome First Week!

We had such an AWESOME first week!  I am already so proud of these kiddos.  It always amazes me how quickly they jump right in and learn our classroom routines.  I said to them all week......"Are you sure you weren't 1st graders last year?"

This week we were hard at work learning and practicing our classroom rules and procedures.  We played lots of games that helped us get to know each other.  On Monday, to help us with our first day jitters, we got to make and drink Jitter Juice.  We read lots of stories that helped us learn how we should treat each other. This year we are going to "bucket fillers" and not "bucket dippers".  We got to play with some of our math manipulatives and  learned how to correctly use the dice and spinners.  We ended our busy week by graphing M & M's and erupting volcanoes.  It was a fun and busy week!
